Dan Macdonell helped us find and negotiate our first home in Maui. I came across a listing in Maui on the Internet that fitted my needs and contacted the listing agency, Coldwell Banker Island Prop, I was put in contact with Lulu Williams. Lulu was able to give very pertinent information about the listing and all the critical components within the few minutes of the conversation. An offer was made and accepted based upon the history of the property and the comps that Lulu provided within a few hours. A quick flight to Maui provided the visual inspection and escrow was completed. Jean Wallace Lulu Williams acted as our realtor in the recent purchase of a home in Kihei, Maui This was a difficult undertaking, as I live in Denver, Colorado. My son lives in Maui. Lulu provided both of us information, and took my son to visit a number of properties. Once we had made a decision, she handled the offers on a first house, which we did not buy. She then found additional properties which met our requirements, within days, I might add, and brought my son to visit those. Another property was selected, offer made, and accepted. I picked Kevin Spaise as my listing agent because when I interviewed him he knew the market extremely well and was obviously knowledgeable. Big Mahalo's to Michele White: Though I have purchased and sold many properties during my 58 years, I were not familiar at all with the ins and outs of Maui properties, the leasehold vs. fee simple issues and especially the special assessments and condo fees. The other issue was that we needed to be able to rent out our property to be financially feasible and were not aware that there are restrictions on short term rentals. We found Aiko quite by accident. We were putting a bid from California on a house in Wailea for which Aiko represented the seller. To keep things simple we asked her to be our agent as well. Although we and the sellers could not reach an agreeable price, we were very impressed by Aiko’s professionalism and her high ethical standard. We had the good fortune of crossing paths with Bob Wills, Coldwell Banker Island Properties, during our search to purchase a condo in Maui this past August. From the onset, Bob was genuine, straightforward, and direct. He soon distinguished himself from the proponents of the “silver-tongued”, disingenuous, plastic approach. Bob was a careful listener that assessed what my wife and I were in the market for. He then began directing us to the best values on the market, and additionally provided us with an in-depth compilation of statistical market summaries and sales reports for similar and comparable units over the past 10 years. Reiko Hata was my realtor for a recent Maui property purchase in the city of Kihei (February 2016). I was so pleased with the service she provided. It began three years ago, when my wife and I were viewing an open house she was hosting. As she described that property to us, it was immediately apparent that she was very knowledgeable about the unit, the condo complex, and the area itself. In addition, she was so pleasant to communicate with, and enthusiastic about her work, much more so than most of the realtors I’ve encountered over the years. It is a rare combination of qualities that made me want her to be my Maui realtor, and why I would recommend her to anyone with real estate needs on Maui. At that same open house, as we prepared to leave, I said, “Reiko, I’m currently in shopping mode, and want to learn as much as I can about properties in this area. I won’t be a buyer for a few years. Can you please work with me to provide information on properties as they come up for sale?” Most realtors, sensing any possible commission being years away, would likely say yes, but do nothing for me after I walked out the door. But not Reiko! She and I kept in touch over email, with me being from southern California, and she kept sending me listings, asking what features I was interested in. Over the months/years, she compiled an excellent profile on what I was looking for, thanks to her perseverance…and all this without me once saying that I was ready to buy! Finally, in mid-2015, I told her it was time. Henceforth, Reiko took her commitment to finding me a perfect place to another level. I was sent listing after listing, which I really appreciated, and gave her feedback to help further hone her search. When we came to Maui in January 2016, Reiko had set up a grand tour of several properties that I wanted to see, and led a party of eight, my entire family, on a delightful voyage through some of Kihei’s finest. For each, she pointed out the salient features of each unit, and each complex – things beyond what the eye sees in an open house. This tremendous insight was greatly appreciated a true testament to Reiko’s outstanding knowledge of the area! I found one of the properties to be perfect, and made an offer, which was accepted. I then began to appreciate another area of Reiko’s expertise, as she carefully guided me through the escrow process. Rather than simply emailing me a checklist of items to complete, she went through each item with me, and made sure I understood what to do and when. What a relief it was to have her on my side through this process, as this was my first purchase of real property in Hawaii. Reiko also did an outstanding job in scheduling the inspection and negotiating with the seller to have the items that I requested be fixed prior to the sale. An excellent negotiator, Reiko was able to get the seller to fix everything I asked! Reiko also found a competent professional to conduct the final walkthrough in my absence, helped me through the process of setting up the utilities in the unit, and finding a good insurance agent! For each step of the process, Reiko kept me updated with detailed status – it was like I was there myself. Super job on all fronts, Reiko!
