Reiko Hata was my realtor for a recent Maui property purchase in the city of Kihei (February 2016). I was so pleased with the service she provided. It began three years ago, when my wife and I were viewing an open house she was hosting. As she described that property to us, it was immediately apparent that she was very knowledgeable about the unit, the condo complex, and the area itself. In addition, she was so pleasant to communicate with, and enthusiastic about her work, much more so than most of the realtors I’ve encountered over the years. It is a rare combination of qualities that made me want her to be my Maui realtor, and why I would recommend her to anyone with real estate needs on Maui. At that same open house, as we prepared to leave, I said, “Reiko, I’m currently in shopping mode, and want to learn as much as I can about properties in this area. I won’t be a buyer for a few years. Can you please work with me to provide information on properties as they come up for sale?” Most realtors, sensing any possible commission being years away, would likely say yes, but do nothing for me after I walked out the door. But not Reiko! She and I kept in touch over email, with me being from southern California, and she kept sending me listings, asking what features I was interested in. Over the months/years, she compiled an excellent profile on what I was looking for, thanks to her perseverance…and all this without me once saying that I was ready to buy! Finally, in mid-2015, I told her it was time. Henceforth, Reiko took her commitment to finding me a perfect place to another level. I was sent listing after listing, which I really appreciated, and gave her feedback to help further hone her search. When we came to Maui in January 2016, Reiko had set up a grand tour of several properties that I wanted to see, and led a party of eight, my entire family, on a delightful voyage through some of Kihei’s finest. For each, she pointed out the salient features of each unit, and each complex – things beyond what the eye sees in an open house. This tremendous insight was greatly appreciated a true testament to Reiko’s outstanding knowledge of the area! I found one of the properties to be perfect, and made an offer, which was accepted. I then began to appreciate another area of Reiko’s expertise, as she carefully guided me through the escrow process. Rather than simply emailing me a checklist of items to complete, she went through each item with me, and made sure I understood what to do and when. What a relief it was to have her on my side through this process, as this was my first purchase of real property in Hawaii. Reiko also did an outstanding job in scheduling the inspection and negotiating with the seller to have the items that I requested be fixed prior to the sale. An excellent negotiator, Reiko was able to get the seller to fix everything I asked! Reiko also found a competent professional to conduct the final walkthrough in my absence, helped me through the process of setting up the utilities in the unit, and finding a good insurance agent! For each step of the process, Reiko kept me updated with detailed status – it was like I was there myself. Super job on all fronts, Reiko! For anyone with real estate needs on Maui, I would highly recommend Reiko Hata as their agent. She is there for you from start to finish.
